WIESBADEN – According to provisional results of quarterly cash statistics, the core and extra budgets of the overall public budget – as defined in public finance statistics – recorded a financial surplus for the fourth time in a row. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the surplus was particularly high in 2017, at 61.9 billion euros. In the preceding year, the financial balance amounted to 25.8 billion euros. The financial balance of the core and extra budgets of the overall public budget has been positive since 2014 and reached an unprecedented peak in 2017.
