Press Number of integrated comprehensive schools almost tripled in ten years

WIESBADEN – The number of integrated comprehensive schools almost tripled to roughly 2,100 in school year 2016/2017 compared with 2006/2007. Based on data from the publication "Schulen auf einen Blick 2018" (Schools at a Glance 2018), the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that most schools affected by closures were secondary general schools. Their number declined by 45% to 2,600 between 2006/2007 and 2016/2017. The number of intermediate schools declined by 30% and that of special schools by 14%. On the whole, there were 33,500 schools of general education in Germany in school year 2016/2017. Their number was down by 8%, or 2,800 schools, compared with ten years ago.
