Press Aquaculture production up 11.7% in 2017

Press release No. 186 of 24 May 2018

WIESBADEN – In 2017, roughly 36,200 tonnes of fish, mussels and other aquaculture products were produced in approximately 2,700 aquaculture businesses in Germany. This was an increase of just under 3,800 tonnes (+11.7%) compared with a year earlier. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the strong increase was largely based on a growth of mussel production. The quantity of mussels produced amounted to 16,900 tonnes, which was an increase of roughly 3,800 tonnes (+28.9%) compared with 2016. As a result of changes in the natural conditions, the quantities of mussels produced may vary considerably from year to year.

Basic data and long time series are available in tables Survey of production in aquaculture businesses in the GENESIS-Online database.
