WIESBADEN – In the winter semester of 2017/2018, 36,600 occasional students attended courses and lectures at German institutions of higher education, which was a decline of 0.6% from the winter semester of 2016/17 (36,900). The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of German occasional students rose slightly by 0.2% to roughly 32,000 compared with the preceding winter semester. A decline in the number of foreign occasional students by 5.1% to 4,700 was reported for the same period. One year earlier, the number of foreign occasional students had risen considerably (+58%) compared with the winter semester of 2015/16.
