WIESBADEN – More personnel in the police, in child day care centres and institutions of higher education led to an increase in the number of public service personnel until the middle of 2017. To coincide with the United Nations Public Service Day on 23 June, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that roughly 4.74 million people were employed in the public service on 30 June 2017, according to provisional results of the statistics of public service personnel. That was an increase of 47,500 people, or 1.0%, on a year earlier.
