WIESBADEN – The average debt of overindebted people who sought support from a debt advice centre in 2017 totalled 30,170 euros. That amount was 28 times as high as their average monthly income (1,072 euros). The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that debtors in Rheinland-Pfalz faced the highest debt burden. Their average debt was 35 times as high as their average monthly income.
