WIESBADEN – A total of 1,586 scientists completed their post-doctoral lecturing qualifications (habilitations) at universities in Germany in 2017. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the total of habilitations increased slightly by 0.3% compared with the previous year. At the same time, the number of women who obtained a post-doctoral lecturing qualification decreased slightly from 481 to 464. Hence the proportion of habilitations completed by women declined from 30% in 2016 to 29% in 2017. Between 2008 (23%) and 2016, the proportion had increased continuously.
