Press Global urban population will increase by one billion by 2030

WIESBADEN – The worldwide number of city dwellers will rise by roughly one billion people to 5.2 billion in 2030. In mid-2018, 4.2 billion of the total global population of 7.6 billion were living in cities. These are data from the United Nations (UN), which are published by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) to mark the World Population Day on 11 July. Consequently, a total of 60% of the world's population will be living in cities in 2030. The current percentage is 55%.
