Press Fewer young people than ten years ago

Marked decline in the number of young people without a secondary general school certificate

WIESBADEN – At the end of 2016, approximately 3.2 million young people aged 14 to 17 years were living in Germany. Their number decreased by nearly 470,000 within ten years. To mark the International Youth Day on 12 August 2018, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the proportion of 14 to 17 year olds in the total population dropped from 4.4% at the end of 2006 to 3.8% at the end of 2016.
