Press release No. 322 of 29 August 2018

WIESBADEN – A total of 741 accidents in installations for handling water-hazardous substances were reported in 2017. This was a 13% decline compared with a year earlier. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that in these accidents 10.2 million litres of pollutants escaped into the environment, 3.5 million litres more than in 2016 (+52%). The increase was caused by few accidents in which large amounts of liquid manure, slurry, silage effluents and similar substances produced in agriculture were released.
