Press release No. 368 of 27 September 2018
WIESBADEN – In 2017 the local units of mining and manufacturing produced 57 terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this is a share of 12.3% of the gross electricity production in Germany, including the power plants for general supply, as recorded by the official statistics agencies. The share of industrial electricity in the gross electricity production reported was by 1.1 percentage points higher than in 2016. Since 2007 (9.2%), that proportion increased by 3.1 percentage points. In the first place, the industrial power plants meet internal demand, but in many instances electricity is supplied to other local units or exported to the electricity supply grid.
