Press release No. 374 of 28 September 2018
WIESBADEN – In accordance with the provisions of the Hospital Fees Act, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) publishes the reference value for hospitals, as it is called. It is an important parameter for the partners in the German self-governing healthcare system (statutory health insurance institutions and hospitals). The reference value indicates the average annual percentage change of hospital costs which is due only to changed prices or earnings. It is thus a major basis for budget negotiations regarding in-patient care. The reference value for the second half of 2017 and the first half of 2018 is 1.96% as compared with the same period one year earlier (second half of 2016/first half of 2017). The sub-reference value for staff costs is 2.39%, that for material costs 1.26%.
