WIESBADEN – According to information from the competent authorities, almost 7.6 million people received minimum social security benefits in Germany at the end of 2017. This was a decrease of 3.5% compared with the end of 2016. At the end of 2017, the number of recipients as a percentage of the population amounted to 9.2%. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the percentage decreased for the second year in a row. At the end of 2016, nearly 7.9 million people, or 9.5% of Germany's population, received minimum social security benefits (end of 2015: 9.7%).
