Press release No. 461 of 28 November 2018
WIESBADEN – In 2017, 79% of the 20 to 64 year olds in Germany were in employment, which was the second highest rate in the EU after Sweden (82%). The EU average was 72%. The employment rate measures the age-specific proportions of the population who are in employment. To mark the publication of the brochure "Arbeitsmarkt auf einen Blick – Deutschland und Europa" (Labour Market at a Glance - Germany and Europe), the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the employment rate in Germany increased by six percentage points compared with 2007 (73%). In those ten years, the EU-wide average rose by just two percentage points (2007: 70%).
