WIESBADEN – Roughly 24,400 teachers (public officials) went into retirement in 2017. This was a decrease of 1,100 retirements compared with a year earlier (-4.2%). The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was the second consecutive decrease following 27,900 retirements in 2015, which had been the highest number since statistical coverage started in 1993.
