WIESBADEN – 3,265 people were killed in road traffic accidents in Germany in 2018. Based on provisional figures, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was an increase of 85 people, or 2.7%, compared with 2017 (3,180 fatalities). The number of traffic accident fatalities thus increased, following two years of declining numbers. Nevertheless, this was the third lowest level since 1950. The number of persons injured in 2018 also rose by 1.1% to roughly 394,600 compared with a year earlier.
