WIESBADEN – According to provisional results, roughly 11.0 million pupils are receiving education in schools of general education and vocational schools in Germany in school year 2018/2019. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this is a 0.5% decrease compared with school year 2017/2018. The decline in the number of male pupils (5.7 million) has been 0.6% and in that of female pupils (5.2 million) 0.4%. The number has declined almost in parallel to the population development. As at 31 December 2017, the number of people in the relevant age group (5 to under 20 years) was 0.5% lower compared with a year earlier.
