Press release No. 093 of 13 March 2019
WIESBADEN – Roughly 12.3 billion eggs were produced in Germany in 2018. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was a 2.0% increase on the previous year. The above quantity of eggs was produced by holdings each with at least 3,000 places for laying hens.
Just under 7.8 billion eggs (63.2% of total production) were produced by hens kept in barns which means that floor management continues to be the prevailing form of hen keeping in Germany.
