WIESBADEN – In 2018, domestic gas traders sold a total of 786 tonnes of sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) to German businesses. Sulphur hexafluoride is a greenhouse gas with an extremely strong impact on the climate. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was a decline from 1,142 to 786 tonnes (-31%) compared with 2016. SF6 is mainly used (609 tonnes) (77%) in the electrical industry and the construction of apparatus. Compared with 2016, the relevant sales decreased by 351 tonnes, or 37%.
