WIESBADEN – Inefficient housekeeping was the most important cause of overindebtedness for roughly one in four people aged under 25 years who sought advice from a debt advice centre in 2018. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that almost 30% of the older people (65 years or over) who received debt counselling in 2018 indicated that sickness, addiction, an accident, or separation, divorce, death of the partner were the main reason for their overindebtedness.
