Press release No. 217 of 7 June 2019
WIESBADEN – German local courts reported 4,861 business insolvencies in the first quarter of 2019. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was a decline of 3.2% compared with the first quarter of 2018. Thus the trend of declining business insolvencies has continued. An increase in the number of business insolvencies was last recorded in the first quarter of 2010 (+6.7% on the first quarter of 2009). Since that time the number of business insolvencies has always been lower than in the corresponding quarter of the preceding year.
The local courts reported that, in relation to the business insolvency requests, the prospective debts owed to creditors amounted to roughly 4.7 billion euros in the first quarter of 2019.
Basic data and long time series are available in tables Insolvencies (52411) in the GENESIS-Online database.
