WIESBADEN – Those who can be seen with sunglasses on 21 June, the first day of summer, are likely to be wearing a product imported from the People's Republic of China. Based on provisional figures, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that 50.6 million out of the total of 59.2 million sunglasses imported to Germany in 2018 came from China (86%). Accounting for 3.1 million (5%) of these imports, Italy ranked second among the supplier countries of sunglasses. The total value of the sunglasses from Italy (127 million euros), however, exceeded the total value of sunglasses imported from China, which was just 112 million euros.
