Price increase particularly large for freehold dwellings in the seven largest metropolises (+8.6%)

WIESBADEN – The prices of residential property (house price index) in Germany were an average 5% higher in the 1st quarter of 2019 than in the 1st quarter of 2018. Based on provisional results, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the prices rose both in towns and in rural regions. The price increase was particularly large in the seven largest metropolises (+8.6% for freehold dwellings and +6.9% for single-family and two-family houses). In densely populated rural districts and in sparsely populated rural districts, the price increase was smaller in the 1st quarter of 2019: Dwelling prices were up 1.7% and 1.1%, respectively, and house prices rose by 4.3% and 4.5%, respectively, on the 1st quarter of 2018.
