Higher education entrance qualification pays in terms of occupational choice and salary
WIESBADEN – The occupational choice of apprentices is strongly influenced by their school leaving certificate and sex. This is shown by the ranking of occupations that were most popular among those who started dual vocational training in 2017. Before the start of the new apprenticeship year, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that 42% of the 516,000 prospective apprentices had a medium-level qualification, 29% a higher education entrance qualification and 24% a secondary general school certificate.
The apprentices were distributed over a total 470 vocational training occupations.
