Wine production up 38% year on year

WIESBADEN – Winegrowers in Germany produced considerably more wine in the exceptionally hot and dry summer of 2018 than a year earlier. They produced 1.03 billion litres of wine from the total quantity of grape must (including must converted to wine equivalents). Wine production increased by 38% compared with the previous year. To coincide with the Rheingau Wine Festival to take place from 9 to 18 August 2019, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that, compared to red wine (34%), white wine accounted for the larger proportion (66%) of the total amount of wine produced (including Rosè and Rotling). The proportion of red wine declined compared with the previous year (39%).
