Press Fixed-term employment in 2018: 56% of fixed-term jobs with a term of less than one year

WIESBADEN – In 2018, 8.0% of all employees from the age of 25 years had a fixed-term job. The majority (55.5%) of them had an employment contract with a term of less than one year. Based on current results of the quality of employment derived from the labour force survey, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports, that roughly 1.5 million of the 2.7 million employees with fixed-term jobs had an employment contract with a term of less than one year. For 21.2% of the respondents, the contract was limited to one to under two years, and for another 12.6% to two to under three years. 10.7% indicated to have a contract with a term of more than three years.
