WIESBADEN – In the 2nd quarter of 2019, the number of abortions decreased by 2.2% in Germany, compared with the 2nd quarter of 2018. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that roughly 24,400 abortions were recorded in the 2nd quarter of 2019. Nearly three quarters (71%) of the women who had an abortion in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were aged between 18 and 34, 18% were between 35 and 39 years old. Just over 8% of the women were 40 years or older. The proportion of women aged under 18 was 3%. Approximately 41% of the women who had an abortion were women with no prior live births.
