WIESBADEN – The current situation on the housing markets in the German metropolises is such that households which rented and moved into a dwelling in 2015 or later pay above-average rents. This is shown by the 2018 results of the additional microcensus survey of housing in Germany. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that, based on their own information, private households throughout Germany had to pay an average net rent, exclusive of heating expenses, of 7.70 euros per square metre for dwellings rented in 2015 or later. Consequently, their rental expenditure is 12% higher than the average net rent exclusive of heating expenses in Germany (6.90 euros).
