WIESBADEN – In August 2019, German local courts reported 1,626 business insolvencies. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was an increase of 0.6% compared with August 2018.
In August 2019, the largest number of business insolvencies was recorded in wholesale and retail trade (including repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles), which accounted for 280 cases (August 2018: 273). Enterprises in the construction industry filed 266 requests for insolvency proceedings (August 2018: 267). In accommodation and food services, 193 requests for insolvency proceedings were reported (August 2018: 182), while administrative and support service activities accounted for 168 requests (August 2018: 175).
