Press Agreed earnings in the 3rd quarter of 2019: +4.2% on the same quarter a year earlier

Large increase mainly due to agreed one-off payments in the metal-working and electrical industry

Press release No. 457 of 29 November 2019

WIESBADEN – Agreed earnings in Germany rose by an average of 4.2% in the third quarter of 2019 compared with the same quarter a year earlier. This was the largest increase since the beginning of the time series in 2010, which was mainly due to the supplementary payment agreed in the 2018 collective bargaining round. The statistics take into account the agreed basic remuneration and agreed extra payments such as one-off payments, annual extra payments or agreed back payments. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that, excluding extra payments, the year-on-year increase was 2.8% in the third quarter of 2019. Consumer prices were up 1.5% over the same period.
