Press release No. 468 of 10 December 2019
WIESBADEN - The potential greenhouse effect of the fluorinated greenhouse gases used in Germany in 2018 (FCs, HFCs, blends) fell by almost 19% on 2017 and by even 35% on 2015. To coincide with the UN climate conference held in Madrid from 2 to 13 December, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the reason for the decrease is the changeover from fluorinated greenhouse gases with a high greenhouse potential to others with a lower potential, in accordance with the F-Gas Regulation (F-Gas Regulation (EU) No. 517/2014).
The volume of greenhouse gases used was roughly 9,390 tonnes in 2017 and was down to roughly 8,223 tonnes in 2018 (-12.4%). When measured in CO2 equivalents, the volume of gases used fell from 13.8 million tonnes to 11.2 million tonnes in 2018, which is a 18.9% decrease in the potential greenhouse effect.
