WIESBADEN – The number of pig-keeping holdings in Germany declined by more than one third ( 35%) from 33,400 to roughly 21,600 between 2010 and 2019. To coincide with the International Green Week in Berlin, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that, against the background of a generally decreasing number of agricultural holdings in Germany, this decline is well above average.
The total of agricultural holdings declined from just under 300,000 to roughly 275,000 between 2010 and 2016, the year of the most recent farm structure survey. This was a decrease of approximately 8%.
