Press release No. 060 of 27 February 2020
WIESBADEN – In April 2018, there were 930,000 jobs in Germany for which workers were paid the statutory gross minimum wage of 8.84 euros per hour worked. The number of minimum wage jobs more than halved between 2015 and 2018 (2015: 1.91 million jobs). The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that 2.4% of all jobs were minimum wage jobs in April 2018. The proportion was much higher in eastern Germany (4.6%), although it was not half as high as in 2015. Thus a trend towards reaching the western level is clearly visible.
