Press release No. 099 of 16 March 2020
WIESBADEN – The agricultural holdings in Germany harvested a total 3.9 million tonnes of vegetables in 2019. That was 13% more than in 2018, which had been a year of very low yields, and almost 10% more than the average of the years 2013 to 2018. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that holdings which cultivate their land entirely on an organic basis produced a total 328,400 tonnes of outdoor vegetables on 14,500 hectares. This is a proportion of just over 11% of the total outdoor area under vegetable cultivation and 9% of the total yield of vegetables grown outdoors. Compared with 2018 and the average of the years 2013 to 2018, the quantity harvested on organic areas rose by just under 20%.
