WIESBADEN – In 2019, 294.5 million tonnes of goods were loaded and unloaded in German sea ports. A volume of 23.9 million tonnes concerned goods traded with the People’s Republic of China. Compared with 2018, the loading and unloading of seaborne goods traded between Germany and China, which was most affected by the coronavirus pandemic in early 2020, increased by 8.9%. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the volume of goods loaded and unloaded in maritime transport as a whole declined by 0.3% in 2019 year on year.
