WIESBADEN – The number of people in Germany who are infected with the new coronavirus is rising. In the case of a severe course of the disease, in-patient medical treatment may become necessary. In 1,942 German hospitals, roughly 497,200 beds were available in 2017, including about 28,000 beds for intensive care. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was about 6 hospital beds per 1,000 inhabitants. Just over three quarters of the hospital beds were occupied (total bed occupancy rate: 77.8%; beds for intensive care: 79.0%).
