WIESBADEN – Health expenditure in Germany amounted to 390.6 billion euros, or 4,712 euros per inhabitant, in 2018. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was a 4.0% increase on 2017. In 2018, health expenditure accounted for 11.7% of the gross domestic product. This proportion was by 0.1 percentage points higher than in 2017. Based on available and updated data, health expenditure is expected to increase further to 407.4 billion euros in 2019, which would be an increase of 4.3% compared with 2018.
