Press Coronavirus crisis: experimental data reflect current buying behaviour

Special evaluation shows rising sales of alcoholic beverages just before holidays

Press release No. 178 of 20 May 2020

WIESBADEN – Up to Week 20, different developments were observed regarding the demand for specific convenience goods, which in the corona crisis sometimes has been unusually high. A new special evaluation of experimental data by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) shows that the sales figures of selected sanitary products and food in Week 20 (11 to 17 May 2020) were roughly at pre-crisis level, although fluctuations are still observed for some goods.
