WIESBADEN – The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) has grouped major short-term indicators in the form of a Crisis Monitor on its website, which permits comparisons between the economic consequences of the corona pandemic and those of the global financial and economic crisis in 2008/2009. The set of figures allows a direct comparison of short-term economic development during these crises. The beginning of each crisis is determined on the basis of the first recession quarter. The starting point of the corona crisis in the first quarter of 2020 is compared with the second quarter of 2008. The data for 2020 are continuously updated.
