Press release No. 188 of 28 May 2020
WIESBADEN – Roughly 18,500 tonnes of fish were produced in just under 2,500 German aquaculture businesses (e.g. fish and mussel farms) in 2019. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was an increase of well over 400 tonnes compared with a year earlier (+2.4%). Mussel production can fluctuate significantly from year to year because of natural conditions. Compared with 2018, it rose by 42.1% to approximately 19,400 tonnes, even exceeding the quantity of fish produced. Total aquaculture production amounted to 38,100 tonnes. This was an increase of 19.5% compared with 2018.
