WIESBADEN – Germany's population rose by 148,000 (+0.2%) in 2019. At the end of 2019, the country’s population stood at 83.2 million. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that population growth continued to slow compared with the previous year; the increase had amounted to 227,000, or +0.3%, in 2018. Germany’s population has continuously increased since 2011. The annual growth slowed after the record increase observed in 2015 due to immigration (+978,000 or +1.2%) so that in 2019 the increase was nearly comparable to that of 2012 (+196,000 or +0.2%).
