WIESBADEN – At the end of 2019, roughly 7.9 million severely disabled people were living in Germany. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was an increase of approximately 136,000, or 1.8%, compared with the end of 2017.
The proportion of severely disabled people in the total population in Germany was 9.5%. Slightly more than half of them (50.4%) were men, 49.6% were women. People are classed as severely disabled if a pension office has determined a degree of disablement of 50 or more and handed over a valid disability pass.
