Press release No. N 027 of 12 June 2020
WIESBADEN – As from 15 June, the first visitors from Germany will be able to go on holidays to Mallorca again. Then the Balearic Islands will be allowed to welcome up to 10,900 tourists from Germany - even before the Spanish borders will officially be opened to all foreign travellers on 1 July. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that just under 317,400 air passengers travelled from Germany's large airports to the Balearic Islands between January and April 2020.
This means that the number of air passengers in the first four months of 2020 was only about a third of that in the same period of the previous year (965,400 air passengers). During the corona pandemic, international air transport almost ground to a halt in April 2020. In April, only 199 passengers travelled to the Balearic Islands from large German airports. Easter holidays planned earlier had to be cancelled.
