Press release No. N 029 of 17 June 2020
WIESBADEN - Babysitting, waiting tables or tutoring - most of these activities can currently not be performed or be performed only to a limited extent due to the corona pandemic restrictions. For many students who have lost their second/additional jobs it is difficult to cover their living expenses. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that students living alone had a monthly average income of roughly 1,060 euros in 2018. That amount was spent almost completely on private consumption. Providing interim financial help, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research will now support students who have lost their jobs due to the corona crisis.
Income from own employment: 390 euros, assistance from parents: 460 euros
The income and expenditure of single student households, for example, can be shown based on the results of the sample survey of household income and expenditure. In 2018, students living alone had approximately 1,060 euros at their disposal. While 390 euros were income from own employment, roughly 460 euros were financial assistance provided by households, for instance those of their parents. Examples of additional types of student income were training assistance and children's allowance.
