WIESBADEN – Temperatures go up and people get thirsty. Especially in the heat of summer, water is vital to us. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the refreshment industry in Germany produced roughly 13.7 billion litres of natural mineral water in 2019. More than half of it (7.8 billion litres) was mildly carbonated or still mineral water. Between 2009 and 2019, the production of the “mildly carbonated” and “still” mineral water variants almost doubled (2009: 4.3 billion litres). By contrast, the production of strongly carbonated sparkling water declined by 12.2% between 2009 and 2019 when it amounted to 5.8 billion litres.
