WIESBADEN – In April 2020 German local courts reported 1,465 business insolvencies. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was a decline of 13.3% compared with April 2019.
In April 2020, the largest number of business insolvencies was recorded in construction, which accounted for 249 cases (April 2019: 280). Enterprises in wholesale and retail trade (including repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles) filed 231 requests for insolvency proceedings (April 2019: 284). The number of requests for insolvency proceedings in professional, scientific and technical activities amounted to 163 (April 2019: 194) and in accommodation and food service activities to 159 (April 2019: 189).
