WIESBADEN – Due to the ongoing controversy about Hong Kong’s autonomy, the former British crown colony has been the focus of public attention for several months. The debate about reactions to China’s policy towards Hong Kong also addresses Germany's economic relations in the region. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that German exports to Hong Kong fell by 18.5% from January to May 2020 compared with the same period a year earlier. A decline of 14.1% was recorded for total German exports over the same period.
