Press release No. 310 of 14 August 2020
WIESBADEN – In 2019, a total of 1,515 gigawatt-hours of electricity were produced from sewage gas of sewage treatment plants in Germany. Compared with 2018, this was an increase of 1.6%. This output would have been sufficient to provide a city like Frankfurt am Main with electricity for a whole year (assuming an average per capita electricity consumption of roughly 1,900 kilowatt-hours). The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that sewage gas accounted for 0.3% of the total electricity produced from renewable energy sources in 2019.
