Press release No. 354 of 29 June 2020
WIESBADEN – The earnings gap between low-paid and high-paid workers declined slightly between 2014 and 2018. In 2014 the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reported that the increasing wage differentiation had stopped. The results of the 2018 structure of earnings survey for the first time show a trend towards declining differences in earnings between low-paid and high-paid workers. In 2018 the gross hourly earnings of high-paid workers were 3.27 times as high as those of low-paid workers, while they had been 3.48 times higher in 2014.
