WIESBADEN – The prices of residential property are at a record high, while building land has never been as expensive as last year. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the average purchase value of developed building land was 189.78 euros per square metre in 2019. Ten years ago this value had been roughly 122.00 euros. Investors had to pay particularly high prices in the city states of Berlin and Hamburg, where the value of a square metre of building land amounted to 1,328.48 euros and 1,157.91 euros, respectively. The lowest average purchase values were recorded in Thüringen, Sachsen-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: they amounted to less than 60 euros per square metre.
